AUGUSTA — Maine’s secretary of state is heading north to bring a Civil War-era ledger book back to its home in Penobscot County.

Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap will deliver the ledger to the town hall in Mattawamkaeg on Friday. He’ll be joined by Board of Selectman Chairman John Whitehouse and Town Clerk Jodi Furge.

The book details how much aid servicemen and their families in the small town received at the end of the war and the years that followed. The Maine State Archives received it in December after a staff member saw it on eBay and the seller, who lives in Missouri, sent it back to Maine.

Members of the public can view an electronic copy of the ledger at the Maine State Archives.
