ANSON — A Farmington woman was arrested and taken to the hospital Monday night after allegedly head-butting her boyfriend in a domestic dispute and injuring herself in a car crash, police said.

Michelle Leite, 42, is charged with domestic violence assault and has been released on bail, according to Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster. He said police were called to the scene of the domestic dispute on Hilton Hill Road around 9 p.m. Monday night.

A few minutes after police were dispatched there, they learned that Leite had left the scene and was involved in a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of West Mills Road and Route 43, Lancaster said.

Leite was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown around inside the vehicle. She was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital for treatment of crash-related injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Lancaster said. Police arrested her and collected bail at the hospital.

The boyfriend, whose name was not released, was not injured seriously in the domestic dispute, Lancaster said. The cause of the car crash is being investigated, Lancaster said.

“We believe alcohol may have been a factor not only in the domestic dispute but also in the car crash,” he said.
