WINTHROP — Winthrop native and Master Maine Guide Ben Thomas will speak at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, during the Winthrop Library Lakes Region Forum. All library events are held at the temporary library location on the first floor of the Winthrop Commerce Center at 149 Main St., because of construction of the addition to the historic Bowdoin Street building, according to a news release from the Bailey Public Library.

Thomas is well known for his debut book “No Horns Blowing,” which has been a popular Maine guide to whitewater canoeing for more than 40 years, according to the release. A graduate of the University of Maine, ham-radio operator and float-plane pilot, Thomas is the author of six books and a number of articles that have appeared in numerous national magazines. Thomas teaches creative writing at the University of Maine Augusta Senior College and more recently has begun publishing Maine-based teen novels.

Thomas will discuss creative writing, the Maine outdoors and his latest teen novel “The Scorpion Riddle.” The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call the library at 377-8673.
