KINGFIELD — High Peaks Artisan Guild Gallery will feature New Portland resident and local real estate broker Nora West as the Artist of the Month in March showing her oil and watercolor studies and sketches from her stay at Baxter State Park this past summer when she was the park’s Artist in Residence.

A member of the guild, West will be at the Kingfield Friday Artwalk from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 6. Light refreshments will be served. Artwalkers can meet the artist and many of the other members of the guild who also show their artworks at the gallery, according to a news release from the gallery.

“Although I have hiked Katahdin in years past, it was great to have an extended period of time without interruptions to immerse myself in heart of BSP,” said West in the release, “I would hike to various locations and paint on site.” While there, she stayed in an old ranger’s cabin at Daiccy Pond.

The Katahdin area has attracted artists and writers since the mid-1800s. Baxter State Park recognizes this long standing tradition and the richness it brings to the park experience by providing an opportunity for plein air artists to experience this wilderness first hand.

West is one of the 93 artists from Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties exhibiting in the biennial exhibition “Area Artists 2015” at the Atrium Art Gallery, University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College. This exhibition continues through April 4.

Additionally, West was also one of the artists selected to be part of “Inspired by Katahdin,” juried by brothers David and Carl Little, at the Harlow Gallery this past November.

The High Peaks Artisan Guild is a 15-plus-member artisan cooperative. For more information on the guild and gallery, visit www.highpeaksartisanguild.com or norawest.com.
