Peter Del Gallo of Gardiner reached the championship semifinal round at the New England Championships on Saturday in Andover, Mass.

Del Gallo, a junior and state runner-up, ultimately won three of his five matches in the 126-pound weight class to advance all the way to the consolation finals, finishing fourth overall.

After defeating Jeremy Fields of Danbury, Conn., 4-1, in the preliminary round, he knocked off Cameron Bennett of Nashua North (N.H.) in the championship quarterfinals, 7-1.

Del Gallo met Chad Gassaway of Mt. Anthony (Vt.) in the semifinals and led, 1-0, after two periods. But Gassaway rallied with a reversal and a two-point near fall and eventually won, 5-3, to advance to the finals.

Del Gallo defeated Fields again in the consolation semifinals, 10-3, before Timmy Kane of Fairfield Warde (Ct.) edged him in the finals, 7-6.

Gassaway pinned Marshwood’s Bradley Beaulieu in the championship final. Beaulieu defeated Del Gallo in three overtimes for the state championship on Feb. 21.
