A pair of inmates at Two Bridges Regional Jail have been charged in connection with making a false sex assault accusation against a female corrections officer.

Brandon Knowles, 25, who is from the Bangor area, told authorities that a corrections officer had touched his genitals without his permission on Saturday in a secluded area of the jail, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday. Cory Breen, 26, from the Belfast area, backed up Knowles’ report and said he was in the area at the same time, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff’s Detective Terry Michaud reviewed security video and conducted several interviews and ultimately determined the complaint had been fabricated by the two inmates, police said.

Knowles was charged with making a false public report and Breen was charged with hindering an investigation, police said.
