WATERVILLE — “Into the Woods” will open at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, on the Waterville Opera House stage.

This musical with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a story line by James Lapine first appeared in San Diego in 1986 and on Broadway in 1987. It was recently made into a movie featuring Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp among other notable actors.

“Into the Woods” and its all Maine cast will be presented at 7:30 p.m. April 17 and 18, and at 2 p.m. April 19 at the Opera House. Tickets cost $23 for adults and $21 for senior and youth by calling 873-7000 or visiting www.operahouse.org.

Opera House veterans Debra Susi and Michael Peterson direct the show about a childless baker and his wife as they journey into the woods and learn about the responsibilities that come with getting what they want. Their efforts are cursed by a wicked witch who is also Rapunzel’s mother. This adult fairy tale also features other characters featured in Brothers Grimm stories and include Cinderella, Jack (of Beanstalk fame), Little Red Riding Hood and many more.
