A fire Sunday night on Hallowell/Litchfield Road in West Gardiner destroyed an outdoor wood boiler and the shed around it.

West Gardiner Fire Chief Chris McLaughlin said nobody was hurt in the fire, but the boiler, which was only a few months old, and the shed, were a total loss. The house, which is some distance from the boiler, was never threatened.

“He had a barn next to it that we managed to save,” McLaughlin said.

He was unsure if the boiler and building were insured.

A passerby reported the fire at 1247 Hallowell/Litchfield Road around 5:30 p.m. McLaughlin said the boiler and building were nearly gone by the time firefighters arrived. Firefighters from Farmingdale, Pittston and Litchfield were called to assist West Gardiner crews.

Firefighters remained at the scene for about an hour.
