AUGUSTA — The telephones in the Kennebec County District Attorney’s office began ringing again about 5 p.m. on Wednesday after three days of quiet.

The sound of working phones arrived four days earlier than expected.

“We’re happy to see that we’re ahead of schedule,” said Robert Devlin, Kennebec County administrator.

The phones were interrupted Monday in a changeover that allowed the county to install new phones in the district attorney’s office in a section of the Kennebec County Courthouse that is being renovated now that state offices have moved into the adjacent Capital Judicial Center.

The interruption presented problems for attorneys, defendants and others seeking to contact the district attorney and her staff.

The district attorney’s office, which includes a deputy and assistant district attorneys as well as support staff, now has 10 phone lines instead of seven.

The main number for the district attorney’s office remains the same: 207-623-1156.
