STRONG — A small barn and camper trailer were destroyed in a fire on Pond Road Saturday evening.

Firefighters from four towns spent hours putting out the blaze in a single-story wood outbuilding at 741 Pond Road, according to Strong Fire Chief Duayne Boyd. Crews were called to the scene by the homeowners around 7 p.m. on Saturday.

“When we got there the barn was pretty much completely gone,” Boyd said. Flames were showing on the camper trailer when crews arrived and it also turned out to be a total loss, Boyd said.

The residents kept goats and chickens in the barn, but all the animals were able to escape alive, Boyd reported. The fire resulted in no injuries, he said. He would not identify the property owners.

The fire is believed to have started in the barn, but Boyd said that no cause has been determined.

Around 20 firefighters from Strong, Phillips, Salem and New Vineyard responded to the blaze, according to Boyd. He said crews stayed at the house for about two hours to make sure the fire was completely out.
