PORTLAND  — Two more outdoor concerts scheduled for the Maine State Pier this summer were announced Monday morning, bringing the total number of shows planned for the venue to 17.

The number is staggering to Portland-area music fans, who are used to seeing maybe three or four outdoor concerts by national acts in any given summer.

The two concerts announced Monday are a show by ’80s icon Billy Idol on June 4 and another by the rock band Counting Crows on Aug. 20.

Tickets for Counting Crows are $39.75 to $89.75 and go on sale Friday at 11 a.m. Tickets for Billy Idol are $30.75 to $89.75 and go on sale Friday at noon. Also this year, a new outdoor concert venue at Thompson’s Point, organized by Portland’s State Theatre, is set to have four to six outdoor shows. So far two shows for Thompson’s Point have been announced. For information on the Thompson’s Point shows, go to statetheatreportland.com.
