AUGUSTA — Andrew Silsby, President and CEO of Kennebec Savings Bank, recently announced the Theater at Monmouth was awarded a $1,000 grant through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston Grants for New England Partnership program.

The bank nominated the theater based on its contribution to community through live theatrical performance, arts programming for local schools and building restoration, according to a news release from the bank.

For more than 45 years, Theater at Monmouth has presented interpretations of the classics and been designated the Shakespearean Theater of Maine, according to the release. It is housed in Cumston Hall, an ornate Victorian-era opera house, which has belonged to the town of Monmouth since 1899 and has been on the National Register of Historic Buildings since 1976. More than 15,000 students statewide participate in TAM’s education programs and community partnership efforts each year.
