AUGUSTA — A Massachusetts man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to an indictment charging him with unlawful trafficking in cocaine.

Stefano Augustin, also known as Ha Be Da, 38, of Dorchester, Mass., was indicted last November by a grand jury in Kennebec County.

According to the indictment, the drug trafficking occurred Sept. 9 in Augusta. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

Augustin was arrested on that indictment Tuesday by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Augustin, who had been living recently in Mexico, Maine, made his initial court appearance in the Capital Judicial Center via video from Kennebec County jail.

A judge in the Kennebec County Superior Court case set Augustin’s bail at $10,000 cash or $2,500 and a Maine Pretrial Services contract.
