More than 400 travel and tourism businesses, tour operators and other organizations from eight different countries will visit Maine this month.

Maine is hosting the annual Discover New England Tourism Summit in Portland from April 27-29. The six New England states take turns hosting the conference.

Maine Office of Tourism Director Carolann Ouellette says in a statement that the conference is a chance for tourism industry officials in Maine to meet directly with those who arrange trips for travelers overseas.

Her office says the number of people who visited Maine from overseas and their length of stay increased significantly between 2011 and 2012. Overseas visitors spent $124 million in Maine in 2012.
