ArtWalk Gardiner will kick off its 11th year by showcasing original fine art and crafts created by dozens of area artists who live and/or work within a 20-mile radius of Gardiner. The event is set for 5:30-8 p.m. Friday, May 1. Featuring unique works of art ranging from paintings, drawings, fine art prints and photography to textiles, sculpture, jewelry and ceramics, this community celebration will take place in artists’ studios, galleries, shops and other venues along Water Street.

First launched in 2005 by Artdogs studios and a handful of other area artists, the mission of Artwalk Gardiner is to increase community awareness and appreciation of the visual arts, to encourage interaction with local artists and the public, and to nurture a supportive network that also enhances the local economy. Since its inception, Artwalk Gardiner has drawn hundreds of visitors to Water Street to enjoy these festive evenings of great art and good cheer with area artists.

As in other recent years, this ArtWalk will feature hundreds of original works by local artists including: Joyce Acheson, Karen Adrienne, Matt Demers, Allison McKeen, Tanya Russell, Christine Sullivan, Scott King, Peggy Cope Mascher, John Carnes, Ken Carlson, Katherine Kollman, Angela Goodwin, John Polhemus, Susan Begin, and Ellen Roberts. The artists and artisans of Artdogs Studios, Circling the Square Fine Art Press, Monkitree, SpinOff Studio, MasonJar Madness and more, and the Harlow Gallery will also hold group exhibitions.

In addition to the artwork that will be available for sale, there will also be free refreshments, artists’ demonstrations, children’s activities such as “Chalk the Walk,” live music by Michele Roy and Will West, and a seedling sale hosted by the Gardiner Farmers’ Market. T
