AUGUSTA — Two indictments charging a city man with aggravated criminal operating under the influence have been dismissed because the court received official notice of his death.

Dwayne B. Stevens of Augusta was indicted on the drunken driving charges last year after he was stopped and charged on Aug. 15, 2014, and Sept. 1, 2014, both times in Augusta. He had previously been convicted of vehicular manslaughter in a 1985 drunken driving crash that killed his mother.

On Friday, Stevens’ attorney, Scott Hess, said the pending charges had been dismissed officially.

Stevens, 51, died March 20 in Augusta, according to an obituary that appeared in the Kennebec Journal.
