Unity Barn Raisers will host a chicken barbecue community meal at noon Saturday, May 2, at the Unity Community Center at 32 School St., Unity. This meal will follow the Unity Area Rotary annual Duck Race at 10 a.m. at Sandy Stream and the opening day of the Unity Farmers’ Market at 9 a.m., according to a news release from the barn raisers group.

Sliding scale donations will be from $7 to $15 per person.

The bulk of the ingredients in all the community meals are sourced from local farmers, growers and producers, according to the release.

Unity Food Hub is the meal sponsor.

Volunteers are needed to help with meal preparation and clean-up. As always volunteers eat for free. Those interested in volunteering can call Mary Leaming, UBR Programs Director, at 948-9005, or email programs@unitybarnraisers.org.

Unity Barn Raisers works pro-actively to enhance small-town character and rural environment, while nurturing a thriving community-based economy, according to the release.
