CASTLETON, Vt. — Thomas College scored three unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 10-7 victory over Husson on Friday afternoon on the first day of the North Atlantic Conference baseball tournament.

With the win, Thomas moves to the winner’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament and faces host Castleton at 9 a.m. Saturday. The winner of that game advances to Sunday’s championship. The loser of the Thomas-Castleton game has an elimination game at noon, Saturday.

Michael De Los Santos went 4 for 4 for Thomas and scored five runs. Beau Ewton, batting behind De Los Santos, was 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Together, those two players had seven of the Terriers’ nine hits on the day.

Dominic Esposito was the winning pitcher for Thomas. He allowed one run in an inning and a third. In the bottom of the eighth, Esposito got out of a bases-loaded, no-outs situation with only one run scoring. Nik Beeson pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.

Waterville grad Kyle Bishop went 3 for 4 for Husson. Ryan Rebar also had three hits, while Seth Freudenberger and Andrew Curran added two hits apiece.

Husson committed six errors. Only one of Thomas’ 10 runs was earned.

UMF ELIMINATED: The Beavers dropped a pair of games — 4-1 to Castleton and 8-3 to Husson — to bow out of the NAC tournament.

Dustin McCrossin had three hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead UMF in the loss to Husson. J.T. Whitten, of Waterville, had two home runs to lead Husson. Tom Grady had three hits for UMF in the loss to Castleton.

SOFTBALL

THOMAS ADVANCES:The Terriers staved off elimination in the NAC tournament with a 5-1 victory over top-seed Castleton in an elimination game in Castleton, Vt. The Terriers dropped their tournament opener 3-1 to Husson earlier in the day Friday.

Thomas scored five runs in the fourth inning against Castleton and Sonja Morse earned her eighth victory of the season. The former Cony standout struck out six and allowed just one run. Morse also hit a solo home run while Jordan Agger-Barnes had two hits. Bri Warren and Taylor M. Johnson doubles for Thomas as well.

The Terriers will play Husson at noon on Saturday.
