CASTLETON, VT — The Thomas College baseball team’s quest for a North Atlantic Conference championship fell one game short as the Terriers fell to top-seeded Castleton State 14-2 in the title game Sunday.

Thomas finished the season 18-22 after the loss, while the Spartans — who earned an automatic berth to the Divsion III tournament — are 31-10.

Castleton wasted little time in jumping on the Terriers as it posted five runs in the first inning. Dan Errico tripled in a pair of runs, while Nate Swahn, Tyler Hoare and Nick Swim also drove in runs in the inning.

The Spartans led 8-0 before Thomas finally got on the board in the top of the sixth when Joe Quinlan scored when Michael De Los Santos grounded into a 6-4-3 double play.

Errico finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBIs, while Swim and Zach Bahan also had three hits. De Los Santos, Travis Krause and Ryder Kennedy were the lone Terriers to get hits.

NYIT 8, MAINE 6: Scott Heath belted his fourth home run of the season and Brian Doran had a three-run homer, but it was not enough as the Black Bears fell in Old Westbury, N.Y.

AMHERST 2-5, COLBY 1-3: Jason Buco smacked two home runs in his final game for the Mules in the nightcap, but Colby was swept in Waterville.

Scott Goldberg took the tough loss in a pitching duel in the opener. Goldberg allowed one earned run, struck out four and walked three in a complete-game effort.

Buco finished his career with 126 hits and 20 home runs for the Mules.
