No one was injured Wednesday afternoon in a series of crashes that damaged three cars and a tractor-trailer on Interstate 295 in Brunswick, according to Maine State Police.

Traffic backed up – at one point for several miles into Topsham – as wreckers towed all four vehicles from the crash site near the jug handle in the southbound lane near the Freeport town line.

Trooper Jessica Shorey said the crashes were set off when a driver took evasive action to avoid colliding with a car that had cut him off. That car overturned and came to rest on its side, off the road. The driver, James Kane, 19, of Brunswick, escaped injury.

As traffic began backing up, two other cars collided with each other and they were then struck by the truck.
