The Belgrade Board of Selectpersons awarded contracts this week for paving West Road this season and for the upcoming season of snowplowing.

Bruce A. Manzer Inc., of Anson, received the paving contract. The firm was the low bidder at $308,883.32, almost $100,000 less than $407,315 that was approved for the job by voters at the Town Meeting. The job includes preparation work for culverts and ditches.

According to the town’s 2014 annual report, West Road was last paved in 1998-99. Manzer will be paving three miles of West Road beginning at the Sunset Grille.

Warren Bros. Construction, of Smithfield, the current snowplowing contractor, won the contract to do the entire town for the upcoming year as well, with a bid of $697,501. The contract is for one year and includes an option for multiple years.

Also, selectpersons approved spending $3,750 to have Generators of Maine in Belgrade install a generator at the North Belgrade Community Center because of the relocation there of the Belgrade-Rome Special Needs Assistance Food Pantry.
