JEFFERSON — Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Food Mobile will distribute food, including fresh produce, meat, essential nonperishable items, and breads to people in need in the Jefferson area from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, at First Baptist Church, 24 Waldoboro Road. Distribution is offered to anyone in need of emergency food assistance in Jefferson and the surrounding area.

The food bank’s Food Mobile program allows the organization to expand its outreach to Maine’s neediest and most under-served communities, according to a news release from the food bank. Food Mobile visits communities with a demand for emergency and supplemental food that has outgrown the capacity of local food pantries.

This distribution has been made possible by the Elizabeth Ann Leach Charitable Trust, according to the release.

The Jefferson Food Pantry closed in December 2014. A community meeting has been planned to discuss the need for a food pantry for the Jefferson and Somerville communities.
