AUGUSTA — A priest already serving as half-time chaplain at MaineGeneral Medical Center has been assigned as half-time parochial vicar at St. Michael Parish.

Beginning June 1, the Rev. Paul R. Marquis will serve at St. Augustine and St. Mary of the Assumption in Augusta; St. Joseph, Gardiner; Sacred Heart, Hallowell; St. Denis, Whitefield; and St. Francis Xavier, Winthrop.

Marquis will continue to celebrate Mass at Colby College, Waterville, during the school year.

Marquis was ordained in August 1986 and began serving in the hospital ministry at the Augusta Mental Health Institute in 1992.

He was most recently chaplain parochial vicar of Corpus Christi Parish in Waterville along with serving as the MaineGeneral Medical Center chaplain.

Biographical information about Marquis posted on Corpus Christi’s Web page indicates he is also an avid bicyclist and dog owner.

Marquis’ assignment was one of several affecting priests who have served in the Augusta area. The assignments were made by Bishop Robert P. Deeley, according to a press release from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.

The Rev. Aaron L. Damboise, who was raised in Augusta and ordained at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in 2008, has been appointed pastor of St. Anthony Parish in Jackman and Holy Family Parish in Greenville. That assignment is effective July 1.

Effective July 6, the Rev. Kevin Martin, who was parochial vicar at St. Michael Parish in Augusta beginning July 2010 and most recently pastor of St. Anthony Parish in Jackman and Holy Family Parish in Greenville, has been appointed as pastor of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, which includes Immaculate Conception, Calais; St. Anne, Perry; St. Ann, Indian Township; St. James the Greater, Baileyville; St. John the Evangelist, Pembroke; and St. Joseph, Eastport.
