BETHEL — Madeline Wood pitched a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts as Madison edged Telstar 2-1 in a Mountain Valley Conference softball pitcher’s duel Monday afternoon.

Telstar (6-2) was the only team to beat Madison in the regular season last spring. The Bulldogs (7-1) defeated Telstar in the Western C playoffs on their way to the state title.

The Rebels scored their only run in the bottom of the first. Ashley Savage led off with a triple and scored on a passed ball. After the first inning, Wood did not allow a runner past second base. She finished the game by striking out five in a row.

Madison took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the fourth. Erin Whalen singled and advance to third on two sacrific bunts. With two out, Whitney Bess tripled and scored on a throwing error.

Olivia York took the tough loss for Telstar. York allowed four hits and did not walk a batter. Becca Howard went 2 for 2 with a walk for the Rebels.

WINSLOW 5, OCEANSIDE 4: Hillary Libby starred at the plate and in the circle as the Black Raiders edged the Mariners in Winslow.

Libby allowed four hits and struck out 12. She also hit a home run and a double, and drove in two runs. Kiana Richards and Paige Veilleux each added a double and an RBI for Winslow (6-2).

Ari Curtis and Kalyn Grover each doubled and drove in a run for Oceanside (5-3).

CARRABEC 17, BOOTHBAY 0: Lexie Cowan doubled, tripled and drove in three runs to lead the Cobras in Boothbay.

Paige Chadbourne had three singles and drove in three runs as well. Bailey Dunphy and Liberty Chestnut also had three hits as well for the Cobras (5-3). Nikayla Abruzzese also had a big day, with a pair of hits. Emily Witham also had an RBI single for Carrabec.

Sam LeBeau struck out eight and allowed just five hits to earn the victory.

MESSALONSKEE 7, HAMPDEN 1: Kirsten Pelletier fired a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the Eagles defeated the Broncos in Hampden.

Madisyn Charest and Kristy Prelgovisk each had two singles for Messalonskee (6-2).

Hampden is 2-6.

MEDOMAK VALLEY 12, MCI 10: Hannah Watmough hit two triples, as Medomak Valley pounded out 17 hits in the KVAC B win in Pittsfield.

McKenzie Wing hit three singles for Medomak Valley, while Hallie Kunesh had two singles and a double.

Kali Doiron hit a single and triple for MCI (0-8), while Hailey Stewart and Sydney Morton each had two hits for the Huskies.

LINCOLN 10, WATERVILLE 1: Olivia York doubled and tripled to help Lincoln take the KVAC B win in Waterville.

Miranda Achorn had two hits for Lincoln (8-0), including a double. Michaela DeVogt hit two singles for Waterville (1-7).

SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 4, ERSKINE 2: Grace Ryan had three hits, including two doubles, as the Phoenix edged the Eagles in Jay.

Winning pitcher Emily Keene gave up five hits in the win. Spruce Mountain is 3-5.

Avery Bond singled twice for Erskine (5-3).

BASEBALL

MESSALONSKEE 6, HAMPDEN 3: Nick Mayo drove in a pair of runs and Josh Joy pitched six strong innings, allowing seven hits and striking out five, as Messalonskee rolled to the KVAC A victory.

The Eagles (7-1) stole six bases, including two by Zach Mathieu.

Hampden dropped to 2-6.

WATERVILLE 6, LINCOLN 3: Chay Phelps hit a pair of doubles to help Waterville take a KVAC B win at home.

Andrew Rodrigue, Cam Gardiner, and Danny Pooler also had two hits each for the Purple Panther (5-3), who scored three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good. Phelps doubled to score Pooler to tie the game, and Dalton Wood’s RBI single gave Waterville the lead.

Sawyer Pinkham had two hits for Lincoln (3-4), including a triple. Wood struck out three and walked one to earn the win.

CONY 5, SKOWHEGAN 4: Tayler Carrier singled in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Rams to the KVAC A win in Augusta.

Spencer Buck tripled in the seventh to tie the game for Cony (5-3).

Mike Berry had two hits, including a double, for Skowhegan (2-6).

EDWARD LITTLE 3, LAWRENCE 2, 8 innings: JT Nutting pitched a complete game and had two hits, but it wasn’t enough for the Bulldogs, who fell to the Red Eddies in Auburn.

Adam Littlefield had two hits for Lawrence (2-7), including a double.

Austin Cox and Eli Roe each had two singles for Edward Little 5-3.

ERSKINE 8, SPRUCE MTN. 3: Erskine scored three times in the fourth inning to break a 3-3 tie and pulled away for a win over Spruce Mountain in Livermore Falls.

Ryan Rodrigue, Cody Beaudoin and Andrew Browne cracked two hits apiece for the Eagles (4-4). Rodrigue had a triple, Beaudoin and Browne a double apiece, and Tyler Bailey added a double. Beaudoin also picked up the win on the mound with six solid innings. Noah Preble went 3-for-3 to lead the Phoenix (2-6).

MEDOMAK VALLEY 6, MCI 5, 8 innings: Ollie Brown drove in the game-winning run in the top of the eighth, then took the mound in the bottom half of the inning to close out the game in a win over the Huskies in Pittsfield.

Micah Williamson — who scored the winning run for Medomak Valley (3-5) — went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and Nick DePatsy was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored.

Mitchell Hallee went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBIs for MCI (3-5), while Greg Vigue went 2-for-4 with a triple, one run scored and an RBI.

BOYS LACROSSE

ERSKINE 7, LAWRENCE 6: Trever Browne scored the go-ahead goal with less than five minutes remaining and the Eagles managed to hold from there in a win over the Bulldogs.

Browne finished with a hat trick for Erskine (2-5), while Josh Reed and Tyler Rollins each scored twice. Jake Church made 10 saves in goal.

Gunner McAllister had three goals to pace Lawrence (1-7), Connor Martin netted two goals and Zack Lizotte scored once. Derick Dumont made 11 saves in net.

MARANACOOK/WINTHROP 15, WINSLOW 2: Denver Cram poured in six goals and assisted on four others in the Hawks’ win over the Black Raiders at Thomas College.

Ty Smith added four goals and two assists for Maranacook/Winthrop (6-1), while James Canwell had two goals and two assists.

David Selwood and Jacob Houghton each scored once for Winslow (3-2).
