Chesterville War Memorial Honor Day will begin with an American Legion Honor Guard ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Honor Roll Monument on the corner of Zion’s Hill and Borough roads. Veterans of World Wars I and II are inscribed on the monument, which was first dedicated at the close of World War II.

Legislators, selectmen, friends and relatives of Chesterville’s veterans can attend and participate in the event. All veterans of all wars will be honored, according to a news release from event organizers.

Caroline Tibbetts, initiator of the idea for the event, and herself a relative of an Honor Role veteran, is in contact with out-of-town Honor Roll descendants. “We have a number of people coming from quite a distance for this event,” she said in the release.

Following the ceremony, the Chesterville Center Meeting House will host a reception with refreshments, exhibits and an open microphone for words of remembrance, anecdotes, music, or any appropriate tribute to Chesterville veterans.

Chesterville civic organizations are collaborating to host War Memorial Honor Day, including The Chesterville Heritage Society, Chesterville Extension Homemakers, Chesterville Heritage Society, Chesterville Firefighters, Chesterville Selectmen, Chesterville Grange, and Chesterville Center Union Meeting House Inc.
