The Open Book Players will present their spring children’s show, “Fairy Tales … With A Twist,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16 and at 2 p.m. May 17 at at Johnson Hall in Gardiner. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children. Johnson Hall is located at 280 Water St. in Gardiner.

The stories being featured have familiar characters from several well-known fairy tales and nursery rhymes, but the plots are not quite what the storytellers might have had in mind, as stated in a news release. Imagine what would happen if three little wolves met a big, bad pig instead of the other way around. And what if the Little Red Hen got ticked off at her lazy, good for nothing friends? You will hear about the adventures of the Town Mouse and the Country Mouse who meet the Southern California Mouse, and how the Three Blind Mice really feel about the farmer’s wife and what she does to them, according to the well known English nursery rhyme. The Tortoise and the Hare are getting ready to participate in a totally different competition, and Aladdin discovers magic not in rubbing a lamp, but opening a pickle jar. The performance is directed by Lucy Rioux, artistic director for Open Book Players. For more information contact Lucy Rioux at lucyrioux@gmail.com.
