VILNIUS, Lithuania — Rescuers are searching the choppy waters of the Baltic Sea for a small Lithuanian plane with two pilots on board which has gone missing en route from Sweden to Lithuania.
A spokesman for the Klaipedos Avialinijos company that owns the Soviet-built An-2 single-engine aircraft says it disappeared from radars some two hours after takeoff Saturday evening from the southwestern city of Goteborg.
Viktoras Sisniauskas said Sunday that the pilots were experienced and had reported no technical problems during the flight. The plane had flown from Denmark to Sweden a day before disappearing.
Officials said the search by Lithuanian air force aircraft and naval vessels was hampered by poor weather conditions, including 6-foot high waves and strong winds.
