The Monmouth 2015 Memorial Day observance will commence with a memorial service and ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 25, at the North Monmouth War Monument, beside Mill Pond near the Tex-Tech Mill on North Main Street.

The community Memorial parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Cumston Hall and will proceed down Main Street to the museum, then back to the Veterans’ Memorial Monument where another memorial ceremony, featuring music by the Monmouth Academy Band and local vocalists, is planned, according to a news release from the American Legion Post 204. The short parade in North Monmouth, held in past years, will not take place this year.

Retired Navy Master Chief Aircraft Maintenanceman Roger G. Line II will deliver a brief presentation, and the American Legion Post 204 Firing Squad will fire a rifle volley salute followed by the traditional bugle rendition of “Echoing Taps” by a pair of Monmouth Academy musicians.

Prior to the Memorial Day activities, the Monmouth Fire Department will host a breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. at Central Fire Station on Main Street. Proceeds will benefit the town’s brave and dedicated volunteer firefighters who will no only participate in the parade, but have been instrumental in organizing and conducting it.

Post 204, along with the fire department invite any local civic organization, group or veteran to take part in the village parade. For more information and instructions, call Post Commander Tracy Gray at 592-5593 or Chief Dan Roy at 592-5800.
