EAST MILLINOCKET — A discussion about a proposed national park east of Baxter State Park turned heated during a public meeting Wednesday.

Town residents met to discuss a proposal that would be the subject of a non-binding vote on June 25. The park would be 75,000 acres that are owned by Roxanne Quimby, founder of Burt’s Bees. Another 75,000 would be a recreation area.

WCSH-TV reports the Maine Woods Coalition organized Wednesday’s meeting and opposes the park plan.

Park supporter Matt Polstein of New England Outdoor Center took the podium to tell them opponents they got their facts wrong. He said he’s “tired of not getting” accurate information about the plan.

Residents in attendance say they are conflicted about which side to believe.
