Some Windham firefighters had to pull out of the Memorial Day Parade to battle a two-alarm brush fire on Monday.

A dispatcher at the Windham Fire Department said firefighters first responded to the fire at 21 Court Circle at about 9:15 a.m. They called in a second alarm as they worked to get it under control. By shortly before 11 a.m., the fire, which initially covered about 300 square feet, was extinguished, the dispatcher said.

In northern Maine, forest rangers and Caribou firefighters battled a 5-acre wildfire on Monday. To the east, rangers battled a similar-sized fire near Deblois in Washington County.

Rangers said the entire state remains at high risk of wildfires because of strong gusts and dry conditions.
