WASHINGTON — The government says it won’t ask the Supreme Court to review a judge’s decision that put on hold President Barack Obama’s executive action on immigration.
The Justice Department announcement on Wednesday came one day after a federal appeals court panel refused to stay a Texas judge’s injunction that kept the sweeping immigration plan from taking effect.
Spokesman Patrick Rodenbush said the Justice Department is instead focused on its appeal that will be argued the week of July 6 before the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The plan would shield as many as 5 million immigrants living in the U.S. from deportation, but it remains on hold after the appeals court panel refused to allow it to take effect immediately.
