In celebration of National Trails Day, Kennebec Messalonskee Trails will host an annual celebration of the local trails system. The event begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at the parking lot of the East Kennebec Trail off of Benton Avenue in Winslow.

A short program will include the dedication of Bob & Ernie’s Way, a new access road that connects Benton Avenue to a parking lot along the river for the trail, according to a KMTrails news release.

The access road has been named for Bob Morrissette and Ernie Baker, members of the board of directors of KMTrails whose work has been instrumental in building and maintaining the East Kennebec Trail.

The road and parking lot enhances access to the East Kennebec Trail, making it wheelchair accessible.

A hike will follow the dedication. This free event will take place rain or shine.
