I want to express my appreciation to the Kennebec Journal for publishing the names and pictures of the 16 Cony High students who have earned the honor of being a delegate to Boys and Girls State. We are all proud of their accomplishments.

Each year, the Kennebec Journal recognizes these young men and women, but each year fails to report that Boys and Girls State is a program put on and funded by the Department of Maine American legion through the hard work of the members of 179 posts around the state. It costs $275 for the tuition of each boy and $300 for each girl.

Of the 16 students from Cony, 14 were funded through the fund-raising efforts of American Legion Post 2 and Post 205, and their Ladies Auxiliary units.

The newspaper can help the American Legion by including the information in next year’s Boys and Girls State article.
