HALLOWELL — The Harlow Gallery, in partnership with the Family Violence Project of Augusta, announce a call for Maine artists to create art for an exhibition to take place at the Harlow Gallery in October titled “It Takes a Community: Transforming Violence II.”

Ten years ago the organizations partnered to present “Transforming Violence,” a collaborative, multi-voiced, educational art exhibition and workshop series responding to the problem of domestic violence in our communities. Transforming Violence took place in October 2005 and was an important, empowering and transformative experience for those who participated. While there has been a increase in community awareness of the issue of violence in the community since then, domestic violence is still still taking a terrible toll on Maine families.

Email submissions will be reviewed by a curatorial committee comprised of staff and volunteers from both organizations. All media welcome, including all 2-D media, sculpture, photography, electronic art, installation, fine craft, etc. Submission deadline is 11 p.m. Aug. 15. To participate, visit harlowgallery.org and click on “artist opportunities”.
