AUGUSTA — One man saw criminal charges against him dismissed Monday as jurors waited to begin hearing what was expected to be a two-day trial.

Zachary Troy Sawyer, 27, of Waterville, had been charged with domestic violence assault and criminal mischief.

On Monday, the prosecutor dismissed the charges “in the interest of justice.”

Information in the file at the Capital Judicial Center indicated that the woman listed as the victim in the Nov. 23, 2014, incident in Waterville could not recall the events.

Waterville police at the time said the couple, who have a daughter together, had been arguing and at one point were wrestling on the ground.

Six other people were fined Monday in separate hearings at the same courthouse:

• Christoffer M. Bean, 19, of Sidney, driving to endanger March 25 in Augusta; $575 fine, 30-day license suspension.

• Sean R. Haskell, 29, of Gardiner, possession of marijuana April 18 in West Gardiner; $350 fine.

• Howard E. Morang, 72, of Vassalboro, failure to register vehicle over 150 days April 20 in China; $100 fine.

• Deidra A. Newman, 44, of Farmingdale, operating vehicle while license suspended or revoked Nov. 30, 2013, in Hallowell; $250 fine.

• Riley N. Wentworth, 20, of Oakland, criminal trespass May 2, 2014, in China; $200 fine, $90 restitution.
