For the month of May, the students at Stepping Stones Montessori School & Cushnoc Academy in Chelsea voted to raise money for the Amy Buxton Pet Pantry in Augusta.

The students participated in a “Penny War” to raise the money during the Penny Drive. The four classrooms raised almost $177 in pennies during May. The preschool class raised more than $70 and were crowned the “winners,” accoridng to a news release from the schools.

Ann Buxton visited the school to speak to the students about the important work the Amy Buxton Pet Pantry does for local families and their pets.

The Amy Buxton Pet Pantry is open the second and fourth Saturday each month from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and is at 9 Church St., in Augusta. Donations can be dropped off during business hours at the South Parish Congregational Church.

The preschool class enjoyed lunch from the Red Barn on Field Day as their reward for raising the most money. They would say their reward is also knowing how many pets they have helped.
