The Maine Majestix under-16 club field hockey team split its first two games of pool play against nationally-ranked teams in the National Club Championship at the U.S. Field Hockey National Training Center in Lancaster, Pa. on Sunday.

The Majestix, a Waterville-based club with players from Messalonskee, Skowhegan, Mt. Blue, Winthrop and Belfast high schools, lost their first game, 4-2, to the Chicago Windy City, the No. 8-ranked u16 team in the country. Later in the day, they defeated the Saints, a team from Virginia that is ranked No. 2, 4-3.

Kiley Nelson had two goals on the day to lead the Majestix. Kealey Bowman, Josie Varney, Allison Corbett and Hannah Minns each added a goal. Corbett also played a key role distributing the ball and controlling the midfield. Lydia Dexter, Autumn Littlefield and Delaney Keithly led the defensive effort and Kelsey Thaller played with great poise in the cage.

The tournament continues through Tuesday.
