A local woman was injured early Sunday morning when her pickup truck crashed on Thundercastle Road in Readfield while she was reportedly racing her friend home from a bar.
The driver, a 47-year-old Readfield woman, was taken to the hospital with what were believed to be non life-threatening injuries, according to a Maine State Police release.
The woman’s name was withheld pending possible charges of operating under the influence.
The crash occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday after the woman and a friend left a local bar in separate vehicles. The Readfield woman, driving a Chevrolet pickup truck, and her friend were racing home, according to police, when the Readfield woman passed her friend and lost control after completing the pass. The pickup truck left the road and hit a utility pole and a tree before coming to a rest.
Live electrical wires draped across the truck after the crash, preventing Readfield Firefighters and Winthrop Ambulance rescuers from tending to the woman until Central Maine Power arrived to cut the electricity, according to police. Crews then were able to cut the woman free from the pickup truck.
The pickup truck was totaled.
Police took a blood sample that will be tested for substances, police said.
