ALNA — The Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum will host its annual picnic weekend and yard sale Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 8-9. The two days of events will include regular steam-train rides, Model T railcar rides, handcar rides, food and fun. Lunch items will be available to purchase both days from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to a news release from the museum.

The yard sale will start at 9 a.m. (no early birds please) and end at 4 p.m. both days. Available merchandise includes hundreds of items including some railroad memorabilia that have been donated for this sale, household items, some clothing, antiques and unique items. Profits from this sale will benefit the WW&F Railway Museum archives.

Regularly scheduled trains will depart from Sheepscot Station from 10 a.m. to late afternoon Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Antique machinery and tractors also will be on display.

Regular train-ride tickets are $7 for adults; $6 for seniors and members; $4 for children younger than 12; and free for children younger than 3. For an extra $4, passengers can ride both the train and the Model T. Model T railcar rides will run approximately five minutes behind regularly scheduled steam trains. Handcar rides will be in Sheepscot Yard.

A special memorial for long-time friend and volunteer Julius Stuck is planned for mid-day Saturday at Alna Center.

Bitter Brew will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The museum is always in need of volunteers to help cover its gift shop, with marketing, grass cutting, track crews, machining, and a variety of other tasks including cooking and baking. The museum is run entirely by volunteers. To join the work crews, simply show up on a Saturday. One does not need to be a member to volunteer.

WW&F Railway Museum is at 97 Cross Road in Alna. From Wiscasset Village take Route 218 4½ miles to Cross Road. Take a left at the Cross Road. Sheepscot Station is at the bottom of the hill on the right. For more information, visit www.wwfry.org or call the museum at 882-4193.
