Madison Anson ATV Club was organized in February of this year. The club is the first of its kind in Madison and the purpose is to educate, stimulate and advance the general welfare and safety of ATV recreation, according to a news release from the club. Additional purposes are to provide economic stimulus and growth to the Madison Anson area through the increased use of multi-purpose recreational trails.

The club is accepting both individual/family and business memberships. For an application, email maatvclub@gmail.com. Applications also are available at the Madison and Anson town offices, and many local businesses, including Madison Animal Hospital, K Tronics, Bob’s Cash Fuel and Skowhegan Savings Bank. The club is very active on Facebook (search for Madison Anson ATV Club) and is designing a website.

Landowners in the two towns are being asked to consider allowing users to cross their property in an effort to develop a trail system that connects to already existing trails from the north, south, east and west of Madison and Anson. Potential uses may include ATVs, snowmobiles, equestrian, hikers, bikers, snowshoers and other outdoor enthusiasts. Those who would like to discuss their land being part of this trail system, call 696-3200 or through the aforementioned email address.

It is the hope of the directors of the club that through collaboration with the Selectmen of both Madison and Anson, that both towns will allow ATV operators to access local businesses by driving on certain town roads designated as ‘ATV Access Routes.’

Generally the club will host club rides on the first Sunday and third Saturday of each month. Check its Facebook page for details.

Club meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at Somerset Abbey, 98 Main St., Madison. All are welcome.
