A Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway employee was killed Wednesday in an accident involving the starting gate vehicle at the harness racing track in Bangor, company officials said.

The name of the employee wasn’t being released until family members were notified.

The accident happened while the vehicle was moving during routine track maintenance, spokesman Dan Cashman said. There was no public event at the track at the time.

Cashman said Hollywood Casino, which operates the harness racing track, was bringing in grief counselors for employees and cooperating with emergency officials.

Officials have not determined whether the track will open for the next scheduled races, on Monday.
