The town clerk of China has been named the Clerk of the Year by the Maine Town and City Clerks’ Association.

Rebecca Hapgood received the group’s highest honor Sept. 10 during the association’s 20th annual business meeting, according to a news release sent Wednesday by the group.

The award is presented annually to a municipal clerk who is nominated by peers, and it “recognizes excellence both in their contributions to their community as well as to the profession of the municipal clerk,” according to the association

Hapgood, who has been China’s town clerk for 20 years, was described as someone who is “deeply committed to her community” and who “goes above and beyond to find ways to meet the needs of the greater community,” according to the association’s news release.
