It’s been more than 14 years since terrorists attacked the United States on Sept. 11, 2001. On Sunday, about 100 people showed they haven’t forgotten as they took part in a fundraiser at 2 Monument Square in Portland.
Firefighters put on their full gear, oxygen tanks and all, and started climbing the stairs of 2 Monument Square. To remember the 343 firefighters who died on Sept. 11, they went to the top floor 10 times for a total of 110 flights, the number of floors in each of the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center. The event raised an estimated $3,500 for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
