The Kennebec County Republican Committee recently presented a donation to the Travis Mills Foundation.

During the recent Windsor Fair, the committee sponsored a car in the Demolition Derby to spur donations. Because of the efforts of Curtis Ayotte, of Gardiner, who drove the car in the derby and placed second in his division, Karl Pettengill, of Farmingdale, and many others who assisted with this project and all of those who donated, the committee was able to give $1,600 to the Travis Mills Foundation, according to a news release from the committee.

The foundation’s Executive Director Christine Toriello was at the meeting to accept the donation. During the presentation, Toriello said the donation would be able to fund a veteran and his family spending one week at the Travis Mills Retreat, which is being constructed on the grounds of the former Elizabeth Arden property in Mount Vernon and Rome, according to the release.

The Travis Mills Foundation was founded in 2013 to assist veterans and their families by former U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Travis Mills, one of only five quadruple amputees from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to survive their injuries.
