Police arrested a Cartharge man Tuesday afternoon who was wanted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department in connection with an alleged domestic violence assault involving his girlfriend that occurred early Sunday morning.

Benjamin Bowie II, 47, of Judkins Road, is being held at the York County Jail after Wells police arrested him around 1 p.m. at the home of a relative where he was found to be staying. Franklin County deputies were on their way to retrieve Bowie on Tuesday afternoon, Sheriff Scott Nichols said.

Bowie is facing class B domestic aggravated assault charges. However, after Franklin County officials interviewed the victim Tuesday morning, Nichols said the county is considering altering the charges to reflect how the victim recalled the assault. Nichols could not disclose what the new charges might be.

Early Sunday morning, Deputy Andrew Morgan responded to a domestic disturbance at 27 Francis Place in Carthage, when a woman said a young woman, whom she knew to be Bowie’s girlfriend, showed up at her house naked and bleeding from the neck, a news release said Monday.

The victim’s injuries required her to be taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for surgery. Her condition was not immediately available Tuesday.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies were able to interview the victim this morning, though Nichols could not expound on any details that resulted from the questioning.

According to Monday’s release, Morgan was told that Bowie and the victim had been traveling from Rumford in Bowie’s pickup truck when a dispute occurred. The dispute became heated and Bowie allegedly grabbed the victim by the hair and slammed her head through the passenger window, which cut her neck and resulted in a severe injury.

Nichols expects Bowie to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Franklin County.
