The Sexual Assault Crisis & Support Center hosted its 16th annual Celebrity Dinner event Sept. 19, which was its most successful fund raising and awareness event to date by collecting more than $47,000, according to a news release from the center in Winthrop. The agency is in its 28th year of providing services to individuals impacted by sexual violence within Kennebec and Somerset counties in Maine. The theme for this year’s event was “Masquerade Ball,” which was an evening of elegance dedicated to honoring the many masks that survivors of sexual violence may wear, in their everyday lives, to find their new sense of “normal,” as well as to bring awareness to the stigmas that sexual violence victims face while finding their journey of healing.
