A dozen teams and over 100 runners from Maine are slated to compete in the 81st Annual New England Interscholastic Cross Country Championships at Thetford Academy in Thetford, Vt. on Saturday.

Five runners — two boys and three girls — from area schools qualified to compete as individuals. Tucker Barber of Mt. Blue, Anne Guadalupi of Cony, Zachariah Hoyle of Messalonskee and Lauren Brown and Cecilia Morin of Waterville earned spots in the race at the state championships on Halloween.

Hoyle, a junior, finished seventh in the Class A state meet. Barber, also a junior, was 14th. Both are making their first trip to New Englands.

Guadalupi, a junior, finished fifth in Class A a week after winning the Eastern A title. Brown, a senior, was third in Class B after winning the Eastern B title. Morin, a junior, was 11th in the Class B state meet.

This is Brown’s second trip to New Englands. She finished 97th in last year’s race in Manchester, Conn. Guadalupi qualified but did not race. Morin is making her first trip.

Maine is sending 25 boys and 25 girls to compete as individuals. The champion of each class and runners with the next 22 best times, regardless of class, qualified.

The boys and girls teams from Greely, Scarborough and York qualified, along with the Falmouth, Freeport and George Stevens Academy boys and Massabesic, Orono and Yarmouth girls.
