BOSTON — The body of a 2-year-old girl dubbed Baby Doe after her remains were found in a plastic bag on a Boston Harbor beach has been released to her father.

Joseph Amoroso is planning a private funeral and burial for Bella Bond. Amoroso says she will be buried with her paternal great-grandmother in a Winthrop cemetery.

Amoroso never met Bella but talked to her on the telephone a few times.

Bella was known only as Baby Doe for three months after her remains were found in June on Deer Island.

Authorities learned her name in September when a tip led them to Bella’s mother, Rachelle Bond, and her boyfriend, Michael McCarthy.

McCarthy is charged with murder. Rachelle Bond is charged with being an accessory after the fact. Both have pleaded not guilty.
