WATERVILLE — Carylanne Wolfington scored with 2.9 seconds remaining followed by a big defensive play by Haley Driscoll as the Colby College women’s basketball team defeated St. Joseph’s College 66-64 to win the Colby Classic on Sunday.

The Mules took a 64-59 lead on a jumper by Wolfington with 1:59 to play. The Monks, though, tied the game in a hurry. Kelsi McNamara nailed a 3-pointers and Morgan Cahill hit a jumper with 54 seconds left to tie the game. After a Colby turnover, St. Joe’s missed a shot and the Mules called timeout with 4.5 seconds to go. Mia Diplock inbounds pass went to Wolfington near the block and she turned and hit the layup for the go-ahead basket. On the ensuing inbounds pass, the Monks threw it in to Cahill with her back to the basket about 10 feet out. The defense collapsed on her and Driscoll was able to slap the ball away as time ran out.

Driscoll finished with 17 points while Diplock, a Cony grad, had 12 points and Hall-Dale grad Wolfington scored 11. Colby improves to 6-1 overall while St. Joseph’s fell to 6-2.
