OAKLAND — Police are asking the public’s help to identify a man suspected in the burglary of a summer camp on East Pond.

The male suspect was seen on a security camera at Camp Manitou, a summer camp for boys located off Smithfield Road, which is Route 137. There was no response to several calls Tuesday to a Connecticut telephone number listed as a winter contact on the camp’s website.

A still image from the security camera footage posted on the department’s Facebook page shows a white man wearing a winter hat, a dark hooded jacket and sunglasses walking near one of the buildings at the camp.

Investigators think the man broke into several buildings at the camp over the weekend and stole a number of items, Capt. Rick Stubbert said Tuesday. Police are looking for only a single suspect, he said.

Stubbert did not know what kind of items were taken but said that two or three buildings were broken into.

Police are asking for anyone who recognizes the person to contact them at 465-2202.
